They worshipped lares, the spirits of their family’s ancestors; the Family Spirit (lar familiaris) being the most important one. They were represented by small figures, which were kept in a special cupboard. Short prayers and small offerings were given to the lares daily. On the more sacred days of the month- the calends, ides, and nones- and on festivals such as weddings and birthdays- more elaborate rituals were held. If the family moved to a new house, the lares would move with them.

Parentalia was a festival, occurring between the 13th and 21st of February, when people would honor dead parents. Families would gather at the tombs of loved ones with offerings of grain and wine. On Caristia, on the 22nd of February, temples were closed, marriages forbidden, and public business suspended while the festivals were concluded.Thiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00304453342434991381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1367161100956691682.post-75579407153314863172008-09-17T03:44:00.000-07:002008-09-17T03:44:00.000-07:00Nice post !I did not know before, if the ancient r...Nice post !
I did not know before, if the ancient roman peoples have beliefs like that.Artofreedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07087265333863923326noreply@blogger.com
